The Closing Ceremony will take place today and tomorrow in Padova, in the Aula Magna of the University (Palazzo Bo) where Galileo Galilei taught experimental physics and astronomy.
Under the theme “Beyond Astronomy 2009” the Closing Ceremony will summarize the achievements of the Year and address astronomy in the next decade and beyond. Topics such as the impact of the IYA at the global level, the legacy of Galileo Galilei, role of science in society and astronomy education in developing countries will be addressed by professional astronomers, historians of science and young generation of astronomers. A number of interesting social and side events will aso be held for the general public and individuals who participated actively in the programs of the IYA2009.
It will be a two-day event at the presence of high-ranking government officials, eminent scientists and representatives of the diplomatic circle, international organizations and private industries.
